The programme benefits both participants: the person registering a name receives a discount, while the eligible referrer earns a reward from the registration. Referral rewards are accounted for by the protocol and can be claimed directly through the Elysium Names application. ## 1. How the referral system works The referral programme uses two incentives: * **5% registration discount:** Eligible users registering through a referral receive a 5% discount on the applicable first-year registration price. * **5% referral reward:** The referrer receives a reward equal to 5% of the discounted first-year registration price. The discount and reward are calculated from the eligible registration price, not from any expired-name premium. Referral benefits apply to eligible initial registrations only. They do not apply to renewals or free name claims. ## 2. How to refer someone An eligible referrer can share their referral link with someone interested in registering a `.ely` name. When the invited user follows the referral process and completes an eligible registration, the protocol applies the referral discount and credits the referrer's reward. The referral relationship is recorded by the protocol as part of the registration process. ## 3. Who can participate? To receive referral rewards, a referrer must have an active primary `.ely` name. The protocol also enforces restrictions to prevent self-referrals. A referrer cannot be the same wallet as: * The wallet registering the name. * The wallet receiving ownership of the registered name. This means a user cannot refer themselves by using another wallet to pay for or receive the registration. The referral system is intended to reward genuine introductions to new users. ## 4. How referral discounts are applied An eligible referral provides a 5% discount on the first year of registration. For registrations lasting multiple years, the discount applies only to the first year. Additional years are charged at the normal applicable rate. Referral discounts cannot be combined with other registration discounts. If a user qualifies for multiple discount types, the protocol applies the best eligible discount rather than stacking them. ## 5. How referral rewards are calculated The referrer earns 5% of the discounted first-year registration price. For example, consider a name with a normal annual registration price of 0.1 HYPE. | Description | Amount | | :- | :- | | Standard first-year price | 0.1 HYPE | | Buyer's 5% discount | 0.005 HYPE | | Buyer's discounted price | 0.095 HYPE | | Referrer's 5% reward | 0.00475 HYPE | In this example: * The buyer pays 0.095 HYPE for the first year. * The referrer earns 0.00475 HYPE. * The referral reward is calculated from the discounted price. The example excludes network gas fees. ## 6. Checking and claiming referral rewards Referral rewards are credited to the referrer's account within the protocol. Users can check their available referral reward balance and claim their rewards directly through the Elysium Names dashboard. The protocol also exposes contract functions for users and developers who want to interact with referral balances directly. The relevant functions are: * `referralOwed(address)`: Returns the referral rewards owed to a specified wallet. * `claimReferral()`: Allows the eligible wallet to claim its accumulated referral rewards. Referral rewards are paid in HYPE. The referral accounting is maintained separately from the treasury's withdrawable funds. ## 7. Referral programme restrictions The following rules apply: * Referrers must have an active primary `.ely` name. * The referrer cannot be the registration payer. * The referrer cannot be the receiving name owner. * Buyers receive a 5% discount on the eligible first-year registration price. * Referrers earn 5% of the discounted first-year registration price. * Referral rewards do not apply to renewals. * Referral rewards do not apply to free name claims. * Expired-name premiums do not generate referral rewards. * Referral discounts cannot be stacked with other discounts. ## 8.
