# Registration & Pricing

Elysium Names allows users to register human-readable `.ely` names for periods ranging from one to ten years.

Each successful registration creates an ERC-721 NFT representing ownership of the registered name. Registration payments are made in HYPE, the native gas and payment token used by the Elysium ecosystem.

This page explains registration requirements, pricing, discounts and payment rules.

## 1. Name availability

Before registering a name, users must check whether the requested label is available.

A name must satisfy the protocol's naming requirements:

* Between 1 and 63 characters.
* Only lowercase letters (`a–z`), numbers (`0–9`) and hyphens (`-`) are permitted.
* Names cannot begin or end with a hyphen.
* The name must not already be registered or reserved.

Names are entered as labels without the `.ely` suffix during registration. For example, `yourname` is registered and displayed as `yourname.ely`.

Some labels are reserved by the protocol and cannot be registered through the ordinary public registration process. These include designated brand names and all 36 possible single-character names, which are intended for distribution through the auction mechanism.

## 2. Registration pricing

Registration prices are determined by the length of the name.

| Name length | Price per year |
| :- | :- |
| 1 character | 5 HYPE |
| 2–3 characters | 0.3 HYPE |
| 4–5 characters | 0.2 HYPE |
| 6 or more characters | 0.1 HYPE |

Single-character names are reserved for auction distribution, so the listed 1-character price is not an ordinary public registration price.

The total registration cost is calculated using the applicable annual price and selected registration period, subject to any eligible first-year discount.

### Pricing examples

| Name | Duration | Base price |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `yourname.ely` | 1 year | 0.1 HYPE |
| `yourname.ely` | 3 years | 0.3 HYPE |
| `web3.ely` | 2 years | 0.4 HYPE |
| `abc.ely` | 1 year | 0.3 HYPE |

These examples show the base cost before any eligible discount.

## 3. Registration duration

Users can choose a registration period between **1 and 10 years**.

The selected duration determines how long the name remains registered before renewal is required.

Users should review the selected duration and total payment amount before confirming registration.

## 4. Registration discounts

Elysium Names supports different discount mechanisms that can reduce the cost of an eligible registration.

These include:

* **Partner-token discounts:** Discounts available to qualifying holders of supported partner tokens.
* **Partner programme discounts:** Discounts provided through approved ecosystem campaigns and eligibility programmes.
* **Referral discounts:** A registration discount received when registering through an eligible referral.

Discounts apply only to the first year of registration.

Only one discount can be applied to a registration. Discounts cannot be stacked, and the protocol applies the best eligible discount available.

The remaining registration years are charged at the normal applicable rate.

## 5. Commit-reveal registration

Registrations use a commit-reveal process to protect registration details before completion.

The process has two stages:

**Commitment**

The user submits a commitment containing the intended registration details. The commitment is bound to the wallet that will receive ownership of the name.

**Registration**

Once the commitment has matured, the user can submit the registration transaction.

A commitment must satisfy two timing requirements:

* It must be at least **15 seconds old** before registration.
* It must not be older than **24 hours** when registration is submitted.

If the commitment expires, the user must create a new commitment before proceeding.

## 6. Payer and name owner

The wallet paying for registration does not have to be the wallet receiving the `.ely` NFT.

For example:

* Wallet A submits the registration payment.
* Wallet B is specified as the intended receiving owner.
* The commitment is bound to Wallet B.
* After successful registration, Wallet B receives the name NFT.

This allows users to register names for themselves or for another wallet.

## 7. Payment and transaction fees

Registration payments are made in HYPE.

Users should have enough HYPE to cover:

* The registration price after applicable discounts.
* The blockchain transaction fees required to complete registration.

The registration payment is separate from the network gas fee.

Users should always verify the final amount displayed by the application before confirming a transaction.

## 8. Important pricing rules

Keep the following rules in mind:

* Registration periods range from 1 to 10 years.
* Discounts apply to the first year only.
* Only one eligible discount can be used per registration.
* The best available discount is applied rather than combining multiple discounts.
* Renewals use the normal applicable registration price and do not receive registration discounts or referral rewards.
* Expired-name premiums are separate from ordinary registration pricing.
* Reserved names cannot be registered through the standard public registration process.

## 9. Frequently asked questions

**Can I combine a referral discount with a partner discount?**

**Do discounts apply to the entire registration period?**

No. Eligible discounts apply to the first year only. Additional years are charged at the normal rate.

**Can I register a name for ten years?**

Yes. Registration supports periods of up to ten years.

**What happens if my commitment expires?**

A commitment older than 24 hours cannot be used to complete registration. You must submit a new commitment.
