Elysium Names uses a reservation system to protect designated names and ensure that certain high-value labels are distributed through a controlled mechanism. While most available names can be registered through the standard registration process, some labels are reserved by the protocol and cannot be registered through ordinary public registration. These include designated brand names and all 36 possible single-character names.

1. Reserved names

Reserved names are labels excluded from ordinary public registration. The protocol supports two main reservation categories:

Brand names

Certain brand and protocol-designated names are reserved to protect important identities within the Elysium ecosystem. These names cannot be registered through the standard public registration process. The protocol owner can assign reserved names through the dedicated reserved-registration function. This provides a controlled way to allocate important names to their intended owners.

Single-character names

All 36 possible single-character labels are reserved:
  • Letters: a–z
  • Numbers: 0–9
These names are not available through ordinary public registration. Instead, they are intended to be distributed through the Elysium Names auction mechanism. This ensures that single-character names are allocated through a transparent, competitive process rather than being claimed through standard registration.

2. Why are names reserved?

The reservation system serves several purposes:
  • Protect important identities: Prevents designated brand and protocol names from being claimed through ordinary registration.
  • Controlled allocation: Allows reserved names to be assigned through an authorised protocol function.
  • Fair distribution: Provides a dedicated auction mechanism for single-character names.
  • Protocol integrity: Keeps special name categories separate from the standard registration process.

3. Single-character name auctions

Elysium Names includes an English auction mechanism for distributing the 36 reserved single-character names. Each auction allows participants to place bids, with the highest eligible bid winning when the auction ends. The auction system handles bidding, refunds, settlement and the transfer of proceeds to the treasury.

4. Auction parameters

The configured auction parameters are: The maximum configured bid increase is a protocol bidding constraint, not a guarantee that every bid will increase by exactly that amount.

5. How the auction works

Step 1: Auction begins

A single-character name is made available for bidding when its scheduled auction begins. The opening bid is set at 1 HYPE.

Step 2: Participants place bids

Participants can submit bids according to the auction’s configured bidding rules. A new bid must satisfy the required minimum increase over the current highest bid and remain within the configured maximum increase.

Step 3: Auction ends

Each auction runs for four hours. The auction does not extend its end time automatically when a new bid is submitted. When the scheduled end time passes, the auction can be settled.

Step 4: Winner settlement

Anyone can call the settlement function after an auction ends. The highest eligible bidder becomes the winner, and the auction proceeds are directed to the treasury. The winning bidder receives the corresponding single-character name for a 365-day registration period, subject to successful registration.

Step 5: Outbid participants withdraw refunds

Participants who are outbid can withdraw their refundable bid amounts through the auction contract. This ensures that losing bidders can recover their funds rather than having them permanently locked in the auction.

6. Auction settlement and refunds

Auction settlement is permissionless, meaning it does not have to be performed by the protocol owner. Anyone can trigger settlement once the auction has ended. If the registration of a winning name fails during settlement, the winning bid becomes withdrawable rather than remaining inaccessible. The auction contract also maintains the refund accounting for participants who were outbid.

7. Auction schedule

The protocol is configured to distribute all 36 single-character names through a seven-day auction schedule. Each auction has a four-hour bidding duration, with a 40-minute scheduling gap between auctions. There are no automatic auction extensions. Participants should check the official application and auction schedule for the specific opening and closing times of individual names.
